CUPA PIZARRAS, the only natural slate with A+ for the lowest environmental impact in the BRE
CUPA PIZARRAS has achieved an A+ rating for the lowest environmental impact in the BRE Green guide to Specification.
No other natural slate has ever been awarded with this certification. The Green Guide is part of BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method), an accredited environmental rating scheme for buildings.
The Green Guide contains more than 1500 specifications used in various types of building with information on the relative environmental performance of some materials and components based on the manufacturing practices and the way materials are used in buildings.
NATURAL SLATE, A SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT
CUPA PIZARRAS recognizes the importance of an independently verified system of “assessing” the sustainability of our slate. BRE is an independent and impartial; research based consultancy, testing and training organisation, offering expertise in every aspect of the built environment. They help clients create better, safer and more sustainable products.
The environmental rankings are based on Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), using BRE's Environmental Profiles Methodology 2008. Materials are arranged on an elemental basis so that designers and specifiers can compare and select from comparable systems. The elements covered are: external walls, internal walls and partitions, roofs, ground floors, upper floors, windows, insulation, landscaping and floor finishes.
A+,THE BEST ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE
This data is set out as an A+ to E ranking system, where A+ represents the best environmental performance, and E the worst environmental performance. By evaluating the performance of materials and building systems against these specific environmental impacts they enable the specifier to select specifications on the basis of the performance of a material against environmental impact.
Producing the first natural slate awarded with an A+ certification makes us extremely proud and confident on what the future will bring.
