Edinburgh, 17st June 2016.

There were seven House of the Year finalists, each one demonstrating excellence in housebuilding in its own unique way. From an elegant townhouse in Aberdeen to a beautiful detached five-bedroomed house in Perthshire, there is plenty to admire across this category.

As a family owned natural slate producer that goes back generations, Cupa Pizarras recognises what it takes to build a great home. With a strong foothold in the Scottish slate market, Cupa Pizarras takes pride in helping to create architecturally striking roofs for a multitude of housing projects.

Cupa Pizarras’ Heavy 3 slate makes up the roof of one of the projects, which was a finalist for the House of the Year category - Newton of Classlochie. The product has also been installed in a further seven projects, which featured at the awards.

Heavy 3 Slate is ideally suited to the Scottish market due to its resemblance of the traditional highland slate from Ballachulish that is no longer produced. Being a thicker variety of slate, Heavy 3 provides strength against the high wind speeds and driving rain that is so common throughout Scotland.

Julian Gómez of Cupa Pizarras, commented:

We were really pleased to sponsor the Scottish Home Awards, with the nominees in the House of the Year category showcasing the very best in Scottish architecture.

For a house to be considered great, it must be composed of the highest quality materials to ensure durability, sustainability and that all important polished finish.

The Scottish Home Awards started in 2007 to provide an opportunity to showcase quality homes within the Scottish housebuilding industry. It is run for the housebuilding community to gain well-deserved recognition with the goal of helping house builders and housing associations sell, rent or promote their properties more effectively.
