CUPA PIZARRAS natural slate in Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, icon of Tokyo's Marunouchi district

Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum

CUPA PIZARRAS covers the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, an icon of Tokyo’s Marunouchi district, reopened as an art center in 2010.

Our CUPA 10 natural slate was chosen for roofing of this building, symbolizing the modernization of Japan in the late 19th century, in order to recreate the historic landscape of the Marunouchi District.

CUPA 10 natural slate is a blue-black slate with a smooth surface, split to a thickness of 3.5mm and 5mm, with 7-8mm options for the Heavy variety.

The original structure of the museum was reproduced as faithfully as possible down to the use of specific building methods and architectural techniques.

Our CUPA 10 natural slate was used in this project in rectangular and rounded formats.

Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum.destacado2Built in 1894 in the Queen Ann style of Victorian England, the Mitsubishi Ichigokan was the first modern office building in the Marunouchi District. This historic building reopened as an art museum in 2010.

The construction of the new Mitsubishi Ichigokan, designed in 1894 by the English architect Josiah Conder, replicates the original red brick structure.

More than 200 lithographs and posters by the 19th-century French painter Toulouse-Lautrec are included in the museum’s collections.
