CUPACLAD transforms workforce housing into architecturally interesting homes
The 2nd Avenue Rowhomes project in Fort Dodge, Iowa, is a testament to innovative design and cost-effective construction, with Shyft Collective leading the charge. Originally specified with painter’s brick, intended to be painted black or dark charcoal, the project team opted for CUPACLAD, a natural slate rainscreen cladding system, which resulted in significant savings on installation costs even before factoring in painting expenses.
A key contributor to the project was Brickworks Supply Center in Des Moines, Iowa, a trusted supplier of CUPACLAD. Their expertise in supplying high-quality products ensured that the transition to CUPACLAD was seamless, reinforcing the project’s commitment to durability, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal.
The rowhomes, spanning two buildings with a total of 40 one-to-two-bedroom units across 27,188 square feet, were designed with scalability and efficiency in mind. The interchangeable approach allows developers to adapt unit configurations based on local demand, reducing planning and construction time while maintaining a high-end aesthetic. CUPACLAD was vital in creating affordable workforce housing while keeping the design architecturally interesting.
