Blalock & Partners was brought on board as the architectural firm for the Cache County Public Works facility back in 2019. With numerous local, regional, and national awards to their name, the firm is constantly looking for thoughtful and intriguing products to incorporate to their designs.
CUPACLAD’s natural slate cladding systems were first introduced to Blalock & Partners by their local representative, Scott Hinton, who knew the product would be perfect for their project.
After some research, the design team decided on CUPACLAD’s Direct Apply Logic installation. Once installation began, Kevin Blalock was immediately impressed with the quality and ease of installation CUPACLAD’s direct apply system offered.

The entire team, from architect, to owner, to GC, to installer, were impressed with the ease of installation. It’s just not something that automatically comes to mind when you think of slate cladding. This, of course, includes the ability to field cut and make modifications on-site. It’s all unexpected and provides real value when communicating the materials and advantages to clients.
This project won the 2022 AIA Utah Merit Award in the category of Public Works. The jury recognized how different measures for design excellence were integrated, achieving a workplace supported for the day-to-day office activities.
