New courses available: geological expertise for better natural slate specifications
Architects interested in improving their understanding of natural slate and its correct specification can now register for two upcoming online courses led by Víctor Cárdenes Van den Eynde, geologist and independent roofing slate consultant.
The sessions will take place on Wednesday 15 April and Wednesday 13 May at 14:00 (UK time) and are designed to help architects and specifiers better understand the geological origin, properties and quality of natural slate, key aspects when specifying this material in architectural projects.
Register for the sessions
You can register through the Demio platform:
- 15 April session : Natural Slate Roofing: A Geologist’s Perspective – Demio
- 13 May session: Natural Slate Roofing: A Geologist’s Perspective – Demio
Drawing on his extensive expertise in slate geology and quality assessment, Víctor Cárdenes will provide valuable insight into how natural slate forms, how its characteristics influence performance, and how professionals can distinguish high-quality slate from lower-grade materials.
A special focus of the course will be placed on the geological differences between tectonic roofing slate and Brazilian metalutite, a material often marketed as slate but formed under very different geological conditions.
Understanding these differences is essential for architects and specifiers, as the structure, cleavage and long-term performance of these materials can vary significantly.
If you have any questions about the sessions, or if you would like to attend but the scheduled dates are not convenient, please feel free to contact us. Our team will be happy to provide more information or help arrange a suitable alternative.
