The rhythm of CUPACLAD 101 Random shapes this contemporary residence with elegance
This contemporary residence in Bethesda (Maryland) draws the eye with its striking geometry and thoughtful design. Its façade combines a rich mix of materials, shapes, and colors, where natural slate brings texture, depth, and timeless elegance, completing a home that is both modern and effortlessly beautiful.
Our CUPACLAD 101 Random was chosen for its playful combination of three slate sizes, demonstrating once again in the US that natural slate is not just for historic buildings but also a standout choice for contemporary design.
The Durable Slate, a company established in 1986, handled the installation. Although they had virtually never worked on cladding projects before, a local general contractor specifically called on them because of their expertise with natural slate.
CUPACLAD is a system designed for ease of installation. John Chan Executive Vice President of Durable Slate explains:
We really like the system approach. We’ve installed slate on walls before, but always in a standard roofing layout. CUPACLAD is not nearly as heavy or bulky in appearance. Other companies offering slate cladding were just selling slate and HDPE, had to ‘create’ the system ourselves
We support our clients at every stage of the CUPACLAD project, from the initial concept and design guidance to on-site installation advice. Whether it’s helping choose the right slate format, planning the layout, or ensuring a flawless finish, we are there to make sure architects, contractors, and installers bring their vision to life with confidence.
The result speaks for itself, and the buzz is spreading. As Chan explains:
Our office has already been contacted about several other projects after people saw the pictures. The images really made a big splash! We now feel completely confident installing CUPACLAD.
