Our first slate training and CPD day in Scotland was a great success!

On the 29th April 2019 we did our first slate training and CPD day in Scotland. It was run by our Specification and Commercial Manager, Allan Liddell. The training day was an educational and fun experience which we would love to share with you.

The aim of our hands-on slate training day is to provide clients with theorical and practical knowledge about our slates. The training day was attended by Surveying Solutions Ltd who received training on selecting and grading, measuring the roof pitch, checking the headlap and fixing the slates onto a training rig.

The day also included our RIBA approved CPD seminar, which focuses on the characteristics and benefits of natural slate, the production process, specification and case studies.

Our slate training day is a great opportunity for specifiers to understand the hard work that goes into slate roofing and the time it requires. The training provides advice and best practices for slate roofing and will help specifiers when on site.

Surveying Solutions Ltd worked with our bestselling slate in Scotland, HEAVY 3 which is 7-8mm thick. The extra thickness and weight give it the strength to withstand the high wind speeds and driving rain that is common throughout Scotland, making it a cost-effective choice that lasts a lifetime.

Highly recommended by all attendees

All attendees agreed it was an excellent training day where a lot was learnt, and that they did not realise just how much hard work goes into slate roofing!

Adam Monteith, Director of Surveying Solution Ltd, says:

I can speak for everyone at Surveying Solutions in saying that we really enjoyed the slate training. As building surveyors it is very easy for us to sit at our desk writing roofing specifications or visit a site and comment on a slater’s workmanship without fully understanding the challenges and complexities of physically installing a slated roof. So, it was fascinating and a real eye-opener to be able to have a go at it ourselves, to varying levels of success! I definitely have a new found respect for the skill and speed of a trained slater!  The CPD day was just the right mix of practice and theory, and the staff of both Cupa Pizarras and Burton Roofing could not have been more accommodating. Thanks again to everyone involved in making the day happen and I would thoroughly recommend it to other construction professionals.
