Imagine you could design your own dream house. Daniel and Nina Rowland, architect and interior designer at Studio Fuse, turned a pond into a dream award-winning home in Bosham, Chichester. How did they do it?

On the same plot of land as an existing dwelling, they designed an eco-friendly building that would be surrounded with local wildlife and an impressive natural swimming pond. The transformation was so powerful that featured in Channel 4’s Grand Designs.

As nature was an important element of the project, the process to choose the roof material was straightforward. “We considered using a standard seam metal roof”, explains Daniel Rowland, “but in the end went with slate to complement the other natural materials we’d used”.

The unmatchable technical properties of natural slate convinced the Rowlands, and when they saw firsthand the grey smooth matt surface of our CUPA 12 they knew they had made the right choice.

“CUPA 12 slate has a soft, natural aesthetic and is consistent in its appearance, which is ideal for a modern build. It’s also great quality and our roofer loved working with it”, says Daniel Rowlands.

Our CUPA 12 natural slate’s EPD is listed in the Green Book database, proving that it is a sustainable product that respects the environment during all phases of the production and life process.

The modern roof of the house required a specific and detailed installation due to the different pitches and the mitred hips that were difficult to align.

Darren Stigant, director at roofing contractor NJS, remembers: “I suggested Cupa 12 slate because it’s available in 400x250mm pallets. Using this smaller size helped us achieve the finish we wanted”.

We offer roofing slates in multiple shapes, sizes thicknesses and shades. Our specialised team of experts is at your disposal to advise you and clarify any doubts you may have during the whole process, from specification to on site installation.
